Saturday 19th November. Wadhurst to Bewl Water, circular

A slightly disappointing turnout of five was met at Wadhurst by Kim & Siew Kee. The weather forecast was for rain later but we were blessed with some lovely warm sunshine as we set off north along the Sussex border path. The cold weather had brought down a lot of leaves but there were plenty still on the trees to form a golden canopy as we passed along an old sunken way. There were signs of preparing for winter, with fields now empty of crops, and sheep with their winter coats on. Continue reading Saturday 19th November. Wadhurst to Bewl Water, circular

Saturday November 15th. Around Guildford

Eight of us  alighted at Guildford on a mild and misty morning. It was good to have Sandra with us, making her 1st appearance after breaking her ankle in September. The weather forecast was for rain pretty much all day. Undaunted, we set off south along the Wey navigation, a route we have done many times in the past, but usually in the other direction. Newport (Essex) circular – Sunday 6th November 2016

Despite the dire weather forecast there were still some stalwart and courageous Polyramblers who turned out for this walk. Contrary to what we had been led to expect, we were rewarded with blue skies and bright sunshine although the wind was keen but that just encouraged us to keep up a good pace. Green shoots were bravely peeping up in the ploughed fields and we were treated to wide open skies and spacious views of the surounding rolling farmland. SATURDAY 5th NOVEMBER: SHAKESPEARE IN LONDON (LINEAR):

 Report by Sunita.

Fifteen walkers met at Barbican station for a 5 mile walk, led by Martin and assisted by his friend John, tracing the steps of the bard, William Shakespeare. From the station we went to Barbican Centre, stopping at the site of Fortune Theatre. Here Martin showed several ways the bard’s name was spelt. We studied the Roman ruins and past the St Giles and made our way towards the garden where there a memorial to Heminge and Condell, two of Shakespeare’s fellow actors who is buried. At the Guildhall we saw the Lord Mayor’s coach. Continue reading SATURDAY 5th NOVEMBER: SHAKESPEARE IN LONDON (LINEAR):

Saturday 29th October. Witley to Haslemere

There were 14 of us on the train to Witley.  Rochelle  introduced us to her friend Laura who’s lively poodle Teddy happily made his own introductions. The weather was dry and mild if somewhat misty. The autumn colours were truly wonderful  as we made our way along largely woodland paths. The damp conditions had produced spectacular displays of fungi, but none of our party were sufficiently brave  and/or savvy to do any foraging. Continue reading Saturday 29th October.
