Leith Hill circular in the mist and mud

Nine Polyramblers reached the very nice Plough Inn for lunch, although three arrived before the rest after an email malfunction!  I decided after the walkover to start an hour later, but Harriet, Irene and Valeria never received the email notifying members about the change. The nine of us left the nice and warm pub to face the mud, rain and gathering mist, which made for a walk in the woods more akin to a Hammer horror film than walking up to Leith Hill. HENLEY CIRCULAR WALK: SUNDAY 7 JANUARY

Report by Susan. Photos by Pam

Two ramblers and I set off on the 9.15 train from Paddington and were joined by 3 more polys and Teddy the dog at Ealing Broadway. Geoffrey, who had driven, joined us at Henley-on-Thames station. After walking a few minutes along the river, we branched off through the town and then onto the Oxfordshire Way footpath. We were lucky as although the wind was sometimes a little bracing, it was sunny all day. After a gentle climb we made our way along the Continue reading HENLEY CIRCULAR WALK: SUNDAY 7 JANUARY

Saturday 30 December 2017: Stanmore to Pinner (Linear)

Thirteen Poly Ramblers gathered at Stanmore on a mild and breezy Saturday morning to try to walk off the Christmas excess.   We headed up Stanmore Hill, passing some impressive properties, and then across Stanmore common, the Bentley Priory nature reserve where we saw deer in the enclosure, and on to Harrow Weald Common. We walked through the grounds of the Grimsdyke Hotel Continue reading Saturday 30 December 2017: Stanmore to Pinner (Linear)

Saturday 16 December 2017: St Albans Cathedral and Carols

The day started with sunshine and 19 Polyramblers. A few of us reminisced about the walk we did in St Albans in December 2010, led by Danny, when snow started falling when we went into the pub for lunch and, when we came out everything was white and magical.  A photo taken by Stuart that day ended up as one of the Club’s Christmas cards.  But, this year, the snow that had fallen the Continue reading Saturday 16 December 2017: St Albans Cathedral and Carols

Sunday 10th, Club Christmas lunch, Freemasons Arms, Covent Garden

Back to the old favourite after a less than successful change of venue last year.   15 Polyramblers met at Tower Hill for a short pre-lunch walk on a very cold and snowy day.   It was a slushy and slidy walk over Tower Bridge, along the South Bank to the Millenium Bridge and through Middle Temple and Lincoln’s Inn Fields to Long Acre.  Then 37 Polyramblers met at the Freemasons Arms for the annual Club Christmas lunch. Continue reading Sunday 10th, Club Christmas lunch, Freemasons Arms, Covent Garden
